Why I Do Not Work on a Desk| My Favorite Work From Home Tool

messy deskWhen I used to go into the office, I would work anywhere but my desk. That big rectangular thing sitting in the office makes me less productive, not more. I do not need a private space at work. Do I need quiet place? Yes - for some part of the day at least. Desk? No. For me, the desk is just a nice furniture piece (and storage for paperwork, pens, and paperclips).

People are wired differently. Creativity and productivity can be achieved in many different ways, so I believe we should always try to enable people to do their best by giving them the right work environment. So, if working on the couch or bed is what works for me, I will do that.

Since I mostly work from home these days, I spend a significant amount of time on my laptop. Then outside of work, I also browse the internet, social media, watch movies, and listen to music, also on my laptop.

However, having the laptop on my lap for extended periods of time is not exactly comfortable (especially when the laptop starts overheating and the fan is spinning at 500 miles per hour).

So, lately I have become a big fan of my HUANUO Lap Desk (disclosure: this is an affiliate link and I may get paid for purchases through the link; this is at no cost to you, of course). I use it in my bed, on the couch, outside on the porch. It is spacious enough to fit my 13" MacBook Pro as well as a mouse pad and my phone. It is well-padded, so it keeps my hands and wrists flat (which I figured I should do .... couple of minor hand surgeries later). It is also super sturdy - my daughter has tested that many times while climbing and jumping on it.

I will also admit I have used it as a food tray in bed couple of times (ops!). The carrying handle makes it super easy to bring it up anywhere or store it. It also fits great between my bed and bedside table.

If you are a fan of any other lap desks, please leave your comment below. I'm thinking of getting another one soon to possibly keep one on each floor of my house.
